Sitting high on a hilltop, this modern, Italian, state of the art Snaidero kitchen is the most recent addition to a classic 1980's California contemporary.

The planning for this architecturally bold kitchen began with the designers interpreting the clients’ desire to have a spacious kitchen that seamlessly joined with the existing dining and living areas. The walls between the rooms were removed and the new kitchen and bar islands were placed diagonally so as to enhance the relationship to the adjacent living room with its soaring ceilings and dramatic skylights.

Studio Snaidero of Long Island at Elite Kitchen and Bath in Manhasset collaborated directly with Habitech Planning & Design of Glen Cove. Snaidero designers, masters of European quality craftsmanship, created this international style kitchen in Upper Brookville. The goal for the designers at Habitech and Elite as with all their projects, was to listen, to interpret and to express their clients' unique vision.

The Snaidero cabinetry has a stunning metallic gray lacquer finish with Pininfarina detailing unmatched in sophistication and appearance. Stainless door and drawer edges have an angled ergonomic grip for ease of use and special drawer accessories equip every work area.

One of the more innovative and original details on this project was the "secret" appliance garage. Observed from the kitchen side is a beautiful illuminated backsplash, which, at the touch of a finger, rises up behind the cabinets to reveal a special area for storing heavier small appliances. To preserve counter space, this garage was elegantly engineered and detailed with German counter weight hardware and was recessed 21" into the newly created back pantry. Interior lighting and power strips were installed so that appliances remained plugged in and hidden, yet ready to be pulled out when needed.

Creative solutions can also come from above. A dramatic transformation of the ceiling was achieved with long, gracefully arched lighting coffers built between the existing roof trusses. The kitchen is showered with expertly located multi-source lighting. This "layered" approach to lighting, allows for variation of the mood with the rooms, elimination of unwanted shadows in the work zones and brilliantly enhances the sumptuous surface materials used throughout.

Additional visual excitement was created with the handmade cast glass counter tops on the island and bar. These "pools" of 2" thick cast glass over stainless steel are a refreshing addition to the cool palette and the ideal material for practical and aesthetic reasons. In complete contrast, the perimeter counters are made of cast concrete colored to match the lustrous lacquered Snaidero cabinets.

Vibrant 24"x24" cobalt blue Italian glass floor tiles are radiant heated for maximum comfort and complement the clean sophisticated composition of this remarkable "CUCINA."
