starting with the custom-designed cocktail table, which has a 60-inch cloverleaf top." Other traditional elements include oriental rugs and a tall pair of urns flanking the fireplace. "When people walk into the foyer, the first thing they see is the dramatic great room, and the first word that comes out of their mouths is 'Wow!'" says Dee Kerrigan Perfido, the broker-owner of Kerrigan Country Realty. "As large as the room is, it still exudes warmth and comfort." The 8,000 square-foot house is exclusively listed with her firm and is on the market for $7.4 million.
"We wanted the dining room to be the most formal room in the house, with a nature-inspired theme, starting with branches hand-painted around the tray ceiling," explains Campitiello. The drapery and chair fabrics, the wallpaper, and the antique silver finish of the chairs complement the colors and theme of the ceiling. The custom-designed furnishings in the room and the elaborate chandelier create a very sophisticated environment for dining.
The den is a wonderful area for family gatherings around the fireplace. Windows with transom doors and comfortable window seats overlook the pool. The drapery enhances the windows without blocking the magnificent view. The finish on the cabinet near the fireplace matches the fabric. The rug, designed by Paul Burrell, formerly butler to the U.K. royal family, is from his Royal Manor Collection by Kalaty.
The kitchen features commercial-grade appliances and radiant heating under the floor. Stained glass chandeliers by the same artisan complement the stained glass inlays in the Honeybrook hardwood cabinetry. Bamboo-patterned floor tiles add a lovely gloss and shine to the room.
The master bedroom suite is elegant without being stuffy or formal. Every fabric was selected to go with the artwork. Elements of surprise like the cut chenille fabric on the pillows, the étagère with an oriental flair, and the faux bamboo coffee table give the suite a fanciful ambience.
Campitiello, who was born in Italy, developed an early appreciation for art and architecture. A graduate of Parson's School of Design, she founded East End Interiors over 20 years ago. Johnson joined the firm 14 years ago, after 18 years in the fashion industry. "We think alike; when the wheels start turning, things click into place," Campitiello comments on their synergistic collaboration.
"This project has been a beautiful journey," says Campitiello. "We had a lot to work with - the scale of the house and magnificent architectural detail." Johnson adds, "We felt like artists painting a canvas." The result is a work of art.
