Village denials and lack of inspiration from other companies' design solutions brought these clients to Ireland Gannon's Jim Morgan and Sandra Waddacor for help.
The challenge was to mask a twenty five foot elevation change from the east side of the property to the lower garage level on the west side. As you would expect from a North-Shore incorporated village, the set-back building lines were restrictive and proper drainage was a major concern. Following some discussion, the solution was a 'fresh approach' to promote a classic feeling to harmonize with the existing topography.
Stone-faced retaining walls and a sophisticated drainage system were engineered to accommodate in excess of 4 inches of rainfall and to conform to requirements of village building codes.
The pool was designed to "step up" with the grade and was adorned with a sixteen-foot long curved sheer descent waterfall. A sun burst detail was cut into the rear curved retaining wall and enhanced the upper pool area and the use of "Misty Rose" stone provided a cool, lightly- textured and comfortable surface underfoot.
