involved a total renovation. But Hannam had no trouble gaining the trust of the homeowners, as she had helped them with the interior design of their previous home.
“On first view of this project,” she says, “I recognized that the architecture was, indeed, beautiful. It has fabulous moldings and lovely arch doorways, which we brought to life with a marine high gloss paint.”
The problem, continues Hannam, was that the previous owners had not emphasized the elegance and grandeur of the Georgian architecture. For example, the original chandeliers were very small scale.
“The one in the hallway was not appropriate to the home's majestic center hall baronial staircase that winds up three floors.”
And now, adds the designer, three stunning ceiling medallions - the only architectural elements that were added - crown three new beautiful chandeliers. For the dining room and entranceway, two Venetian chandeliers were chosen from diSalvo's showroom. And, for the kitchen, a lovely custom chandelier was designed by a diSalvo lighting designer.
“Previously, the whole interior space felt cold,” says Hannam, “including the foyer that was white and lacked color. But, now, they have a downstairs color palette that is nothing short of luminous.”
In fact, it was the style and soft hues of the homeowner's beautiful antique walnut dining room set that inspired the color choices, says Hannam, including the period wall covering, which replicates original European prints found in historic archives.
“A European period-style damask now beautifully accentuates the entranceway's raised paneling, staircase spindles, and crown and floor moldings,” says Hannam. “Also, in the center of the hall, an English-styled mahogany table, with a hand tooled leather top, sits on a round custom silk rug.”
The rest of the common areas are done in complementary olives, creams, golds, and cinnamon, which along with exquisite lighting, says the designer, provide a glow that warms the whole downstairs space.
“Other touches in the living room include traditional club chairs,
