that are tufted in brandy colored leather and nail heads, and flank an English design gaming table.
The powder room, used frequently when entertaining, has a magnificent antique marble sink original to the home, explains the designer, which was used as the basis for the room's wall and window coverings.
"A beautiful under-mounted sink skirt, made from sheer gossamer silk, now graces it," she says.
In the family room, French doors, arched by beautiful Palladian windows, bring the outside in.
"For the room's pillows, we used a fun monkey pattern that hints at the beautiful grounds outside," says Hannam. "The wife loves monkeys and we not only have them on pillows but in various accessories throughout the room. The woven fabrics and leather trimmings used in the room provide a very natural and inviting feeling and are durable enough to stand up to regular teenage gatherings.
"The colors of the family room's new rug," continues the designer, "complement the fabrics, and this new carpet is in a size that still showcases the room's rustic all-brick floor."
Upstairs, the Italian sleigh bed in the master bedroom was also an original piece of the homeowners that set the tone for that room.
"She wanted to keep the bedroom tailored and elegant but not fussy," says Hannam. "We chose a lovely fleurs d'lis wall covering and an incredible sage green rug that feels like velvet under your feet. The carpet has a beautiful border that we had custom designed in the house to go around the fireplace and contours of the room. For the rocker, another beautiful piece of homeowner's, we came up with a fabulous throw that is embellished with beaded loop trim."
The designer adds that this complete project not only finished on time, but also was accomplished with very little disruption to the family's routine.
"I worked closely with the painters, paperhangers, electricians and floor refinishers, as well as the faux finishers," she says. "I was in control of who came, and when, and ensured that the family could live comfortably and even entertain clients while the work was going on."
Hannam adds that the diSalvo design firm was a wonderful well to draw from for appropriate pieces and materials.
According to founding partner, Rosemarie DiSalvo, the firm's 20,000 square foot showroom in Garden City rivals Manhattan interior design centers, and houses a myriad of products collected from around the world.
"In addition to a full staff of designers," adds the co-founder, "diSalvo has wonderful associates who help us find just the right wall coverings, light fixtures, accessories for draperies, furnishings, and fabrics for each project - even the beautiful pillows and artwork Carol [Hannam] used here."
"The job was accomplished in just a few months because time was not wasted running about," echoes Hannam. "Everything was more or less at my finger tips."
The homeowners have shared with Hannam how delighted they are with the project. Their newly refurbished Georgian home is truly elegant, but is a comfortable sanctuary that they love to share with others.
Rosemarie DiSalvo emphasizes that the diSalvo philosophy is more than just words about "personal service."
"We offer our clients a cohesive design plan that doesn't end when the project is complete. Each project - large or small -- is infused with artistic creations, developed with great style, and always based on design principles that dictate a proper sense of scale."
Tapping into the needs of their clients - all their needs - and bringing the job in on time and professionally, is the diSalvo creed, says the co-founder.
"And with such professionals working with us like Carol [Hannam], we can handle any job."
