This larger house includes a huge family room with cathedral ceiling. Adding sizzle with contemporary flair, Rose selected dramatic gunmetal charcoal walls to create a metallic affect. Floor to ceiling windows partially adorned by shimmer plaid drapes flood the room with light. A new four-cushion silk sofa and coordinating chairs in sleek platinum are trimmed with cord. The client’s glass-topped cocktail table illustrates the gold/silver collaboration. Continuing the contrast of classic period accessories, a pair of splendid marble-topped neo-classic buffet chests was added. An over-sized traditional mahogany armoire bringing scale to the two-story room holds entertainment amenities, was designed by Rose. Raised exotic wood panels and Corinthian capitals make this armoire a bold, beautiful addition. A wide entrance joins the family room to the equally spacious kitchen also flooded with light from a tall bay window. White cabinets with brass fixtures are topped with a multi-colored granite in the cognac family of shades. Champagne and black plaid and striped fabric bring vibrant color to the room, showing up on drapes, and the client’s newly upholstered dining chairs and high stools.
Tucked between the living room and family room is a delightfully paneled library, small in comparison to the other room sizes. A sophisticated ensemble of upholstered club chairs and matching loveseat feature a silver silk fabric with taupe highlights appear to have been designed especially for this space. The interesting curved front of the love seat complements the oversized ottoman that completes this very pretty room, sure to be a favorite for quiet moments of reflection.
The second floor features four bedrooms with a Juliet balcony overlooking the family room. A large window, adds architectural detail to the front of the house as well as to the second floor hallway. A beautiful window lounge rests in the wonderful light provided. A stone cast of a female figure provides scale to the two-story height along with a splendid chandelier. A guest room is striking as the result of the extraordinary gold wallpaper contrasting with a trellis patterned black and gold carpeting. Black lacquer furnishing with gold Greek key motif adds sophistication. The entire room appears to glow, especially the shimmering silk champagne drapes and plush silk bed ensemble. A second bedroom breaks all the rules for a glamorous boudoir with its unusual twin head boards of decorative mirror. According to Rose, it was an oversized wall mirrored that was halved. Silver, platinum bed ensembles, art deco fixtures and reprints of Hollywood’s hey day adds to the ambiance of a very glamorous period in decorative arts. White gossamer drapes with tiny sequins sparkle and appear to float beside the silver fabric drapes. This is Hollywood glamour fit for any Jean Harlow type.
A third bedroom serves as an office for the owner and the master bedroom is positioned at the end of the hallway, nicely separated. Master suite walls feature subtle stripe wallpaper the backdrop for the client’s huge antique French bed, oversized antique armoire with mirror and a very attractive freestanding framed mirror. A coffered ceiling with blue sky and floating white clouds add whimsy and recess lighting from the ceiling soffat provides an interesting glow. An oversized bay window gave the room an expansive look. Dreamy champagne-colored silk drapes in plaid, mounted on rods covered with pearl appliquéd fabric and hand-tied with extra fringe were outstanding. Rose, frequently admired for her fabric choices had scored another winner. Set in the curve of the bay is an attractive desk. The lamp boasted an exquisite hand-sewn shade. A voluptuous armchair with matching ottoman in a crème moiré silk held court on one side of the desk, while a lovely lounge, also in the creamiest silk, completed this serene setting. Camel-colored trellis carpet with a tiny white pattern added warmth to the room.
Having proof of what pleases one’s client is certainly an advantage, accomplishing success a second time around, clearly had its challenges, but the results once again, were clearly a success.
