The summer is upon us and it couldn’t come any sooner. The springtime months of April and May were the wettest and coldest in memory. But that is all behind us.
This issue of House should be prefaced by the word “Designers.” The cover story leaping at the reader is from Richard Piemonte and his work is like no other. Following Richard, you have Susan Vanden Heuvel, a perennial bright light for the interior design field, who is now set up in Cold Spring Harbor. Rosemarie diSalvo, Megan de Roulet, Mike Graziano of Aladdin, East End Interiors and the work of Country Tique are all part of this issue.
Throughout Long Island there is an extremely healthy crop of designers in all areas, including kitchens, landscapes, architecture as well as the interiors. But off Long Island, there is also an abundant supply of designers and in this issue we’ve added a showhouse in Scarsdale, mainly because diSalvo, once again, is getting the word out. Let us not forget that again we are touching base with the North Fork Designer Showhouse. This showhouse is certain to be one of the most important in a long time. We’ve listed the designers involved (Page 53) and they come from all over the Island. Stay tuned and we’ll bring you more on this major event.
When I use the word “tune-in” it is now a part of my lexicon, truly. You see, on June 3 this company launched House Television on WVVH (Channel 78). All of us got quite a charge since it was a “first” for the business and it won’t be the last. Starting on Page 94, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of House magazine and kicked off House Television. Two decades ago, we tried to get something going in televsion, but there were no outlets. Last year, we found WVVH and worked it out with the owners. We now have a 30-minute show airing four times a weekend. The staff did the whole thing and every one here thinks it’s great.
So keep those cards and letters coming.
