Including covers, this issue of House magazine has 260 pages which is something of a record for all of us at the shop. Across the country, it easily matches anything published bi-monthly. We are indeed proud of this magazine. It overwhelmingly reflects the brighter side of life on Long Island. The staff here has done an outstanding job with a work ethic beyond words.
Part of the reason for such a huge issue is due to the annual LIBI Awards, the Oscars of the home building industry. Another reason is the fabulous work performed by the designers of the first ever North Fork Designer Showhouse. Both the LIBI Awards and the showhouse represent about 100 pages in terms of editorial and advertising material. The builders and designers create their own venues and House magazine simply shows their work. Their accomplishments make us look good and we are forever grateful.
At another level, the cover story of Lee Najman’s work is exceptional. He is constantly dazzling our readers with different designs and establishing daring criteria for himself.
Coming up closely behind Mr. Najman is the talented designer Mercedes Courland. Her design effort in Southampton took almost two years to complete but it was well worth it.
An integral part of the magazine is the travel section. This time we have taken a ride to Cooperstown to visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame Museum. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do as I’m sure all baseball fans would like to do also. But a trip like that takes you beyond the Catskill Mountains.
So, in order to break it up we visited our old friends Tony and Leonora Burton in Garrison along the Hudson River. After a night there we continued on our way to Cooperstown where we stayed two nights. On the way back, we stopped at East Durham, sometimes referred to as “Irishtown.” We stayed at an inn called Gavin’s and fell right in with the other seniors. The grey-haired but young at heart danced all night. What a swell party it was!
To all our friends and readers here’s wishing all of you Happy Holidays.
